Genomic variation of the endangered legume Astragalus tricarinatus
In collaboration with the Center for Conservation Biology at UC Riverside we are investigating the levels of genetic diversity, connectivity and structure of the narrowly distributed Triple ribbed milk vetch (Astragalus tricarinatus). Nobody has explored if this plant species forms any beneficial associations with soil rhizobia. Here we are also evaluating the diversity of symbiotic rhizobia that associates with this endemic California legume. We are using genotyping-by-sequencing techniques to discover genome-wide variation of the host plant and multi-locus genotyping to screen the different rhizobial isolates obtained from root nodules!.
Fine-scale genetic variation in Oenocarpus bataua
Dr. Jordan Karubian – Tulane University
At Tulane University and as part of my Koch-Richardson fellowship I have been working with Dr. Jordan Karubian (http://karubian.tulane.edu), Dr. Luke Brown and PhD. candidate Zoe Díaz-Martin on the fine-scale patterns of dispersal across the life stages of Oenocarphus batua, a widely-distributed palm species in South America that is native in the amazon rainforest.
